I appeared in this group photograph with the Director-General of the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation (CBAAC), Hon. Aisha Adamu Augie, Malam Khalid (left) and Salim Yunusa shortly after I moderated a panel titled, “Found in Translation: Writing in Indigenous Languages,” hosted by the CBAAC as part of its Festival of African Literature: Poetry, Drama and Prose, on 30 January 2025 at the Exhibition Pavilion of the International Conference Centre, in Abuja.
The Festival of African Literature, held between 29 – 30 January 2025, was part of the Centre’s flagship programme aimed to promote and showcase African literature, culture, and identity while fostering global understanding and appreciation. It brought together young and emerging writers, poets, scholars, readers, and storytellers of diverse backgrounds across Africa to celebrate the richness and diversity of the African literary heritage.
The focus of my panel with Khalid and Salim (second photograph) was the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous languages through literature.
